Is a Pediatric surgeon same as a Pediatrician?
Fundamentally a Pediatric Surgeon is a medical professional who has received surgical training following which he/she is trained extensively to cater the surgical needs from newborns to teenagers. They are the people who operate and treat surgically correctable conditions.
In contrast a Pediatrician is a medical professional who specialize in health care of babies and children. They are involved in treating common medical ailments, and provide well baby visits along with vaccination to your child. They often diagnose and offer treatment in form of medications.
In order to expertly treat and manage surgical conditions, pediatric surgeons are trained in few basic aspects of pediatric medicine as well. This enables them to appropriately handle medical and surgical needs of your child. Many times, they collaborate with pediatrician before and after surgery.
